1/9 IA conducts large operation

1st BCT PAO, 4th Inf. Div.

 CAMP TAJI, Iraq – Using two lifts and more than 20 UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters, the 1st Mechanized Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division, conducted a large air-assault operation to capture members of a roadside bomb making cell north of Baghdad at approximately 2 a.m. Monday.
            The Iraqi army unit searched a number of houses and detained one local national who had bomb making materials in his home.
            Some of the equipment seized during the mission included five AK-47 assault rifles, an MG-42 machinegun, an RPK machinegun, two AK-74 rifles, a 12-guage shotgun with 11 shotgun shells, a bolt-action rifle, an SPG9 rocket, five artillery fuses, 19 30-round magazines containing 7.62mm ammunition, a G3 magazine, a drum of 7.62mm ammunition, 11 boxes of 7.62mm rounds, a 10-pound bag of loose 7.62mm rounds, a 57mm mortar shell, three trigger devices, four feet of detonation cord and an artillery round set up to be a roadside bomb.
            The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division continues to support the Iraqi Security Forces in providing a safe and secure environment for all Iraqis.
