Weapons cache destroyed, seven suspected terrorists detained

BAGHDAD – Coalition forces destroyed a weapons cache and detained seven suspected terrorists during a series of raids Friday morning targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq.

During two raids northwest of Taji, Coalition Forces destroyed an explosives cache consisting of several large barrels of highly flammable material. They also detained a suspected terrorist believed to have ties to a foreign fighter facilitator network.

A raid in Mosul, Coalition Forces detained five suspected terrorists, including one who is believed to have connections with facilitating money transfers for anti-Iraqi forces.

In Baghdad, one suspect was detained with alleged ties to a vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices cell.

“Coalition forces will continue deliberate and methodical operations in order to hunt down and capture or kill terrorists who are trying to prevent a peaceful and stable Iraq.  These operations will continue to be successful with the support and cooperation of the Iraqi people,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson.
