Statement from Multi-National Force-Iraq condemning yesterday’s assassination of Fallujah City Council Chairman Sheikh Sami Abdul-Amir al-Jumaili

BAGHDAD – Multi-National Force - Iraq concurs with the Governor and Provincial Council of Al Anbar’s statement condemning yesterday’s senseless act of terrorism against City Council Chairman Sheikh Sami Abdul-Amir al-Jumaili.  

This was an attack on democracy by individuals who oppose the concept of government that is representative of and responsible to the people of Iraq. Multi-National Force-Iraq sends its sincerest condolences to the loved ones and colleagues of Sheikh Sami al-Jumaili and the citizens he gallantly represented.

This reprehensible act, directed against a local government official, was intended to not only destroy lives but also the chance for a better future. This cowardly act only strengthens our commitment to the people and Government of Iraq as they continue to establish a free and democratic society.
