Prime Minister and US Ambassador in Anbar
Multi National Force – West

CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq
- Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki traveled to Al Anbar today and met with members of the Al Anbar Provincial Council and Coalition Force officials.  
    
The goal of the Prime Minister’s visit was to gain a better appreciation for the situation in Al Anbar and show his commitment the provincial government and the people of Al Anbar.  
    
This is Al Maliki’s second trip to the province.  His first visit took place in Ramadi on March 13, where he met with provincial and tribal leadership.
    
Today’s meeting was intended to take place in Al Qa’im with municipal and tribal participation but due to poor weather conditions in western Al Anbar, the meeting was held at Al Asad Airbase.   Although unable to travel to Al Qa’im, Al Maliki did talk by telephone with leaders from the area, including Sheikh Kurdi Al Rafah Albu Mahal and the Mayor of Husaybah, Farhan Tekan Farhan.
    
Attending the meetings were U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker, General David Petraeus, commanding general, Multi National Force – Iraq, Maj.Gen. W.E. Gaskin, commanding general, Multi National Force - West Governor of Al Anbar Mamoun Sami Rasheed Al Awani, Provincial Chairman Dr. Abdulsalam Abdullah Mohammad, Iraqi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Rafa’a Al Issawi, and Iraqi Minister of the Interior Jawad al-Bulani.
