Khalis Police disrupt village firefight
Multinational Division-North PAO

TIKRIT, Iraq – Khalis Police responded to a gunfight between two neighboring villages, stopping the fighting and providing initial aid to the wounded villagers Tuesday.

At approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, the Provincial Joint Coordination Center received reports that the al Koubat villagers were being attacked by members of the Tohoyla village.

As the Khalis Iraqi Police arrived, firing ceased, and they discovered four local citizens killed with an additional 19 wounded. Two IP were also wounded during the attack.

The police secured the scene, provided initial aid and transported the wounded to the Khalis local hospital for further treatment. 

Coalition Forces from the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, attached to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, also responded to the attack, assisting the IP in securing the area.

The incident is under investigation.
