MND-B patrol struck by explosively-formed penetrator
Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO


BAGHDAD — One Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldier was killed and three other Soldiers were wounded when an explosively-formed penetrator detonated near their patrol during combat operations in a southern section of the Iraqi capital June 29.
 
While conducting combat operations in this area of Baghdad elements from this unit, detained nine anti-Iraqi fighters suspected of being involved in a roadside bomb-making cell.  These operations are designed to disrupt insurgent activity by targeting improvised explosive device-making cells, in an order to provide the Iraqi citizens a more secure environment.
 
The deceased Soldier’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and release by the Department of Defense.
