Iraqi Forces detain extremist leader in Mosul
Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO

TAJI, Iraq – Iraqi Security Forces detained the suspected Mosul intelligence leader for an extremist group  during an early-morning operation in Mosul June 30.  The suspected leader is allegedly responsible for providing surveillance of Iraqi and Coalition Forces to insurgent groups for targeting purposes.  He is also suspected of conducting kidnappings and producing vehicle born improvised explosive devices to be used in future attacks.
 
While Iraqi Security Forces were conducting the operation, the suspected leader attempted to flee the area.  Iraqi Security Forces quickly pursued and detained the individual.
 
Iraqi forces also seized miscellaneous documents and notebooks, an English Armed Forces manual, identification cards and three cell phones.
 
Coalition Forces were present as advisors.  No Iraqi or Coalition Forces were injured during the operation.
