GOI reconciliation committee meets with local leaders

BAGHDAD, Iraq – The Government of Iraq’s Implementation and Follow up Committee for National Reconciliation (IFCNR) sponsored a security force briefing with sheikhs from the Tribal Support Council here earlier this month.

Coalition Forces, Iraqi Security Forces, IFCNR representatives and the sheiks covered many topics including ways to integrate Taji’s Concerned Local Citizens organization into the Iraqi Police.

Hussein al-Faiz, the minister of state for national security affairs’ representative to IFCNR, and Karkh Police Chief Brig. Gen. Salah Alany, were accompanied by MNF-I Force Strategic Engagement Cell personnel.

After the lunch on Sept. 12, the party traveled into Taji where CLC volunteers provided security and citizens lined the streets to welcome the visitors.  Al-Faiz met with citizens and listened to their concerns, which he promised to bring to the attention of the central government in Baghdad.  Citizens asked for local medical clinic improvements, ways to integrate CLCs into the Iraqi Police and food and water at CLC checkpoints.

This trip is the second of several scheduled by the IFCNR to different areas in Iraq. The goal is to transform security successes into improved civil services and increase dialogue between the committee and Iraq’s citizens.
