TASK FORCE 134 MULTI-NATIONAL FORCE-IRAQ BAGHDAD, Iraq August 01, 2006 Release A060801h CCCI convicts 24 insurgents, one sentenced to life imprisonment BAGHDAD – The Central Criminal Court of Iraq convicted 24 security detainees July 19 to 27 for various crimes, including possession of illegal weapons, attempting to or using explosives, and illegal border crossing. The trial court found Abd-AL-Rahman Shakh Ru Dinor guilty of illegal border crossing, in violation of Article 24 of the Foreigner Resident Law, and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the defendant after he illegally entered Iraq from Iran. The trial court found Nabil Ibrahim Khaleffa, Samir Abed Muslih and Majeed Muthi Saad guilty of possession of illegal weapons, in violation of Coalition Provisional Authority Order 3, and sentenced them each to 15 years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the defendants after they were found in possession of AK-47s, fragmentary grenades, ammunition and a rocket-propelled granade launcher. The trial court found Hussein Awadh Hussein Aw’wad guilty of illegal border crossing, in violation of Article 10 of the Iraqi Passport Laws, and sentenced him to 15 years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the Libyan national after it was discovered he did not have a passport. The trial court found Omar Radam Khalaf guilty of possession of illegal weapons, in violation of Coalition Provisional Authority Order 3, and sentenced him to 15 years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the defendant after a search of his house revealed five hand grenades, 21 mortars, eight canisters of .50-caliber ammunition, nine surface-to-air missiles, 50 kilograms of explosives, four RPG launchers, six RPGs, one RPK, one anti-tank mine, blasting caps, hand-held radios altered with wires, pressure wire switches, two new Senao base stations, three 155 mm artillery rounds, 150 60 mm artillery rounds, 125 80 mm artillery rounds, seven 120 mm artillery rounds, 100 kilograms of gun powder, and 11 canisters of .50-caliber ammunition. The trial court found Wayel Emeel Joseph/Sarkees guilty of illegal border crossing, in violation of Article 10 of the Iraqi Passport Laws, and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the defendant after he admitted he was from Syria. The trial court found NaFi’a Dawoud Salman Abed Halbus guilty of possession of illegal weapons, in violation of Coalition Provisional Authority Order 3, and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the defendant after he was found near a weapons cache containing six RPG launchers, five pounds of explosives and 180 mortar rounds. The trial court found Jasim Mohammed Shakker guilty of possession of illegal weapons, in violation of Coalition Provisional Authority Order 3, and sentenced him to six years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended Shakker with two other defendants after a search of their vehicle revealed anti-Coalition propaganda, and an anti-tank grenade fell out of Shakker’s dishdasha. The charges against the other two defendants were dismissed. The trial court found Osman Issa Mahmoud guilty of possession of illegal weapons, in violation of Coalition Provisional Authority Order 3, and sentenced him to six years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended Mahmoud and another defendant after a random search of their home revealed one AK-47, six magazines, a bag of electronic parts, one video camera, three knives, a bag full of two-way radios, and two strands of detonation cord with 1.5 pounds of plastic explosives. The charge against the other defendant was dismissed. The trial court found Ibrahim Ismael Ibrahim Hassani guilty of possession of illegal weapons, in violation of Coalition Provisional Authority Order 3, and sentenced him to six years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the defendant after a search of a potato sack on his person revealed 10 RPG rockets. The trial court found Mohammed Hamdan Hussein guilty of possession of illegal weapons, in violation of Coalition Provisional Authority Order 3, and sentenced him to six years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the defendant after a search of his house revealed two AK-47s, one RPG launcher and several RPG rockets. The trial court found Ahmed Salim Al Shlem guilty of illegally entering Iraq, in violation of Article 10 of the Iraqi Passport Laws, and sentenced him to six years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the Syrian national for failing to have a passport. The trial court found Muhaned Ali Kizar guilty of possession of illegal weapons, in violation of Coalition Provisional Authority Order 3, and sentenced him to three years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the defendant after a search of his house revealed a scope, a 9 mm pistol, and a submachine gun with two 50-round drums. The trial court found Mohammed Abed Mohammed Abed, Hashim Rajab Hassan and Ibrahim Mohammed Jadah guilty of attempting or using explosives, in violation of Article 345 of the Iraqi Penal Code, and sentenced them each to three years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the defendants after they were tracked fleeing from the scene of an IED attack. The trial court found Hassan Abd Allah Najam, Adnan Ahmed Aboud, Hassan Hussain Hammoud and Ziad Garad Hameed guilty of possession of illegal weapons, in violation of Coalition Provisional Authority Order 3, and sentenced them each to three years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the defendants after a search of their vehicle revealed an AK-47, a Sterling sub-machine gun, and a black mask in the trunk. The trial court found Moatasim Hussein Abbas and Mohammed Hussein Yassin guilty of possession of illegal weapons, in violation of Coalition Provisional Authority Order 3, and sentenced them each to two years imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the defendants after they were seen placing an IED. A search of the defendants’ property revealed two AK-47s, one RPK rifle, one roll of copper wire, a detonator, and 10 nine-volt batteries. The trial court found Rahman Figil Rhima guilty possession of illegal weapons, in violation of Coalition Provisional Authority Order 3, and sentenced him to one year imprisonment. Coalition forces apprehended the defendant after a search of his house revealed four AK-47s, one RPK, and one loaded pistol. Upon conviction, defendants are turned over to the Iraqi Corrections Service to serve their sentences. To date, the CCCI has held 1,318 trials of insurgents suspected of anti-Iraqi and anti-Coalition activities threatening the security of Iraq and targeting Multi-National Force-Iraq.
