BAGHDAD — The Iraqi National Police Al Askaryn Brigade of Samarra improved its capabilities substantially when it received the delivery of more than 80 vehicles that were purchased through the Iraqi Security Forces Fund (ISFF) program.  The Brigade has been in charge of providing security for the Al Askaryn mosques in Samarra and restoring peace in the area.

The National Police received 40 Ford 550 commercial cargo trucks, 36 trailers and fuel tankers, four tow trucks and two armored vehicles.   Before, they only had small pickup trucks.

“These new trucks are great,” said Iraqi Capt Ali Mohammed Hussein, brigade maintenance officer.   “They will provide greater safety to our Soldiers and help in accomplishing our mission of protecting the citizens and the mosque in our area.”

The ISFF program manages purchases of defense articles such as vehicles, weapons, and ammunition.  The ISFF system provides a tried and trusted way of placing orders for equipment quickly and transparently.

A main objective of the ISFF acquisition program is to quickly improve the Iraqi Security Forces capabilities to help facilitate a smooth transition to total Iraqi control of security.

“It is always great when you can complete a delivery like this one,” said Lt. Col Thomas Cain, site commander of the Abu Ghraib warehouse.  “It shows the Iraqis are stepping up and taking more responsibility for the security of Iraq and we are proud to have served them.”
