City of Hit to demilitarize
Multi National Force – West PAO

AL ASAD AIRBASE, Iraq – Iraqi Security Forces are scheduled to assume responsibility of the city of Hit from Task Force 1st Battalion, 7th Marines Feb. 14.

It is the largest demilitarization of an Anbar city to date.

“Just a little over a year ago, the city of Hit was being torn to pieces by gangs of terrorists and insurgents whose attacks and murders spared no one from horror and suffering,” said Lt. Col. Jeffrey Dill, the commanding officer of Task Force 1/7. “Today, after the Iraqi Police, the Iraqi Army, with assistance from Coalition Forces, cleared the city… the city is back to life and its economy is improving everyday.”

The Task Force, from Twentynine Palms, Calif., will also transfer security of Combat Operation Post 1 to the city of Hit and assume an overwatch posture.

“The closing of FOB 1 inside the city of Hit is an important step in the process to turn over security responsibilities to the Iraqi Security Forces,” said Dill.
