ISOF, SOF detain extremists in Baghdad, Baqubah
Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO

BALAD, Iraq – Iraqi Security Operations Forces, with U.S. Special Forces advising, detained two suspected extremists in separate operations Feb. 11. 

In Baghdad, an ISOF team, advised by SOF, detained an extremist cell leader. The suspect, and his extremist group, are believed to be responsible for rocket and mortar attacks against Iraqi and Coalition Forces. They are also believed to be responsible for improvised explosive device and explosively-formed projectile attacks as well as weapons trafficking.

In Baqubah, an ISOF team, advised by SOF, detained a member of an extremist cell suspected of supplying explosive vests for use in suicide bombing attacks. According to intelligence reports, the cell is also involved in smuggling explosives.

No Iraqi or U.S. Forces were injured during these operations.
