Multi-National Corps – Iraq Public Affairs Office, Camp Victory APO AE 09342 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RELEASE No. 20080315-07 March 15, 2008 Large weapons cache found in Jabella
FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – A local informant led Iraqi Police to a house in the Jabella neighborhood of al Ressalha, south of Baghdad, where a secret room filled with components of explosively formed projectiles was found March 13. The cache contained multiple EFP components, 18 107 mm rockets, 17 120 mm mortars, two 60 mm mortar tubes, four mortar sights with one bipod, 35 60 mm mortars, eight RPG launchers, 11 grenades, 30 grenade fuses, four PKCs, and four spare machine gun barrels and two recoilless rifle rounds. “This is a significant find and it took material for close to 100 EFPs off the streets,” said Capt. Andrew Sanders, assistant S-3 for 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division. “This is an (Iraqi Security Force) success story. They went out without Coalition forces and came back with the cache and then contacted Coalition forces.” Iraqi Police from the Jabella IP station transported the explosives from the house to their station and informed Coalition forces of the find. This is the third cache found in this area by the IPs in the past week, said Sanders. The cache was transported back to Forward Operating Base Kalsu. -30-
