IED kills two children, injures two near Baqubah

Multi-National Division – North PAO

TIKRIT, Iraq – An improvised explosive device killed two children and wounded two other civilians in Khatoon, north of Baqubah, March 23.

Multi-National Division – North soldiers from Company A, 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division responded to the attack.

When the soldiers arrived, Iraqi Army soldiers, Iraqi Police officers and Sons of Iraq had already secured the scene. The two children were sitting at a corner when the detonation took place.

“This is yet another example of the cowardly and barbaric tactics used by the enemy here in Diyala,” said Maj. Mike Katona, operations officer for 4-2 SBCT. “There was clearly no target around other than innocent civilians.” Katona complimented the quick response by Iraqi security forces and Sons of Iraq, adding, “We will work closely with Iraqi security forces to find, capture or kill those responsible for this senseless attack.”
