ISF detain 2 suspected weapons smugglers, kill 3 Special Groups criminals in separate operations

Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO
BAGHDAD – Iraqi Security Forces, advised by U.S. Special Forces, detained two suspected weapons smugglers and killed three Special Groups criminals April 25 - 26.

In the Jazeera Desert, Iraqi Special Operations Forces conducted an operation to disrupt insurgent activities and illegal smuggling in the area. During the operation, two suspected weapons smugglers were detained. During questioning, the wife of one of the suspects told ISOF that her husband conducts attacks against U.S. forces.

The detention of these individuals will likely disrupt lethal smuggling in the Jazeera Desert.

In Hussayniya, 37th Iraqi Army Reconnaissance soldiers killed three Special Groups criminals during an operation to prevent Special Groups violence in the area. During the operation, IA soldiers came under small arms fire multiple times and returned fire, killing three armed individuals.

Continued operations in the Hussayniya area will continue to disrupt Special Groups leadership by limiting their ability to coordinate large scale operations against Iraqi and Coalition forces.
