IA Soldiers find weapons caches, munitions in Sadr City
Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO

BAGHDAD – Iraqi Army Soldiers found substantial weapons caches in Sadr City in separate actions during Operation Peace May 22.

At approximately 11 a.m., IA Soldiers from 38th Brigade, 10th IA Division, seized a substantial weapons cache containing the following: one explosivelyformed projectile; one,homemade mine; more than 2000 7.62 mm rounds; 393 5.56 mm rounds; one 80 mm rocket-propelled grenade; RPG launchers, warheads and tails; one cannon ball; grenades; spools of wire; blasting caps; AK- 47 rifles; AK-47 and M-16 magazines; two body armor vests; a Kevlar helmet; two radios; and other assorted military equipment.

Later in the afternoon, the IA Soldiers seized munitions consisting of a bandolier of 7.62 mm ammunition, more than a dozen RPGs and seven rockets.

“The Iraqi Army is making great strides with this find to eliminate criminal elements and threats to the safety and security of Sadr City,” said Col. Allen Batschelet, Multi-National Division – Baghdad chief of staff. “Iraqis are determined to take back their country from those that oppress the innocent and destroy the rule of law.”
