IA Soldiers continue to seize weapons in Sadr City Multi-National Division – Baghdad BAGHDAD – Iraqi Army Soldiers took a number of weapons out of the control of criminals during Operation Peace in Sadr City May 27. IA Soldiers from the 38th Brigade, 1st IA Division, seized 17 explosively formed projectiles and one mortar tube. Soldiers from the same battalion later found four more EFPs. Additionally, IA Soldiers from 39th Bde., 9th IA Div., discovered six EFPs, eight AK-47s and one AK-47 magazine, a sniper rifle, two rocket-propelled-grenade launchers, a 60 mm mortar round, six rounds of .50-caliber ammunition, a set of body armor and a radio. IA Soldiers from 34th Bde., 9th IA Div., seized three 60 mm mortar rounds, 22 AK-47s, five sniper rifles, blasting caps, ammunition pouches and a pair of binoculars. “Iraqi Army Soldiers continue to demonstrate their professionalism and their dedication in taking these dangerous munitions and weapons off the streets to protect the people of Baghdad,” said Col. Allen Batschelet, chief of staff, Multi-National Division – Baghdad and the 4th Infantry Division. “They are making great strides in safeguarding the Iraqi people.”
