Iraqi Army detain suspects, seize munitions in Baghdad
Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Iraqi Army and Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers continue to conduct operations to increase security in the Baghdad area. During operations May 30, the combined forces detained five suspects and seized various munitions.
 
In the Mansour district of Baghdad, Iraqi Army Soldiers with the 4th Company, 1st Battalion, 54th Brigade, 6th IA Division, after receiving a tip from a local citizen, seized a rocket at approximately 1:30 p.m. The Soldiers detained two suspects believed to be connected to the found rocket.
 
In another operation, MND-B Soldiers with the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, detained a suspect in the West Rashid district of Baghdad. The suspected Special Groups leader is allegedly responsible for weapons trafficking, and indirect fire and explosively formed penetrator attacks on Coalition forces.
 
Also Soldiers from 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div., seized 16 120 mm high-explosive rounds and a 120 mm mortar round in West Rashid.
 
Soldiers with the 3rd BCT, 4th Inf. Div., detained two suspects in the Adhamiyah district of Baghdad. The two suspected Special Groups members are allegedly responsible for emplacing improvised explosive devices.
 
A local citizen turned in a variety of munitions today to Soldiers from the 2nd Stryker BCT, 25th Inf. Div., at Joint Security Station Tarmiya, north of Baghdad. The munitions included three rocket-propelled grenades, a five-gallon jug of homemade explosives and four pieces of ordnance of unknown types.
 
“We are working diligently with our Iraqi partners in removing these dangerous weapons from the streets of Baghdad,” said Col. Allen Batschelet, chief of staff, MND-B and the 4th Inf. Div. “Our combined efforts, along with the support of the local community, is helping to make it a safer area for the Iraqi people and Iraqi Security and Coalition forces.”
