The explosion occurred when Special Groups criminals attempted to launch improvised rocket-assisted mortars in the northeastern neighborhood of Shaab, which is located in the Adhamiyah district of Baghdad. Iraqi Police, fire crews and medical personnel rushed to the scene and assisted injured civilians, who were transported to a nearby hospital. “This is a tragic situation for the innocent Iraqi families involved in today’s attack,” said Col. John Hort, commander of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division – Baghdad. “Special Groups criminals continue to demonstrate their lack of concern for human life by using a family neighborhood as a place to hide and shoot rockets. Iraqi Security and Coalition forces will not stop until all of these criminals have been brought to justice. Our deepest sympathies go out to all of those innocent Iraqis hurt or killed in today’s attack.” -30- FOR QUERIES, CONTACT MULTI-NATIONAL DIVISION - BAGHDAD PUBLIC AFFAIRS AT:
