Engineers detain criminals
Multi-National Division – North PAO

TIKRIT, Iraq – Soldiers with the 18th Engineer Brigade captured four criminals during a route clearance mission south of Tikrit, Iraq June 20.

Helicopter reconnaissance observed several suspects digging on the shoulder of the highway and directed the nearby engineers to inspect the site.

As they drove to the location, the criminals split up and fled on foot. But, the menwere intercepted by the Soldiers.

Four men were detained at nearby farm buildings who tested positive for explosive residue. The Soldiers also found a vehicle belonging to the men that contained a large amount of cash and a small circuit tester.

“This incident shows great team work between air assets and our engineers,” said Lt. Col. Rodney Butler, a spokesperson for the 18th Engineer Brigade. “It’s another great example of combined operations reacting to enemy activity in a timely fashion.”
