BAGHDAD – Coalition forces captured six wanted men and eight additional suspected terrorists while targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq’s networks around the country Saturday and Sunday. In Mosul Saturday, Coalition forces detained a man believed to be al-Qaeda in Iraq’s head of car-bombing operations on the west side and another man who is an alleged cell leader in the same area. Four additional suspects were detained. Coalition forces detained two men during another operation Saturday while targeting a Mosul-based suspect who recently fled to Baghdad. Sunday, a precision operation in Mosul netted the alleged leader of AQI in the eastern half of the city, who is believed to be responsible for mortar and car-bombing attacks. Using information from an operation June 12, Coalition forces captured a wanted man Sunday north of Baqubah, about 40 kilometers north of Baghdad. The man is believed to be associated with the AQI cell responsible for bombings in Diyala province. One additional suspect was detained. Also Sunday, Coalition forces captured a wanted man in Bi’aj, about 130 kilometers southwest of Mosul, for his alleged ties to the AQI foreign terrorist network.
