BALAD, Iraq – Iraqi Special Operations Forces captured a suspected Special Groups criminal and detained two others in the Shulah area of Baghdad June 20.

The ISOF conducted an operation to capture the suspected criminal and associates allegedly responsible for improvised explosive device and explosively formed projectile attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces. The suspected SG criminal is accused of supporting criminal groups with weapons and imported IEDs. Two other suspected criminals were detained during the operation.

“Until recently, Shulah was considered a high-threat area and a stronghold for Special Groups criminals,” said Lt. Col. Neil Harper, a spokesman for Multi-National Corps - Iraq. “The capture of this suspected criminal will aid in significantly reducing the attacks against the Iraqi Security and Coalition forces in the area.”
