FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RELEASE No. 20080801-06 August 1, 2008 IA detains suspects connected to deaths of U.S. Marines Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO BALAD, Iraq – The 9th Iraqi Army Division detained two suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorists connected to the deaths of three U.S. Marines in an operation conducted west of Tarmiyah, approximately 32 kilometers north of Baghdad, July 18. The two suspects are allegedly linked to various AQI wings. The individuals are said to be responsible for numerous murders of Iraqi citizens and Coalition forces. Intelligence reports connect the suspects to a June suicide vest attack that resulted in the deaths of four U.S. Marines and several sheiks during a tribal engagement meeting. Reports also indicate that these two suspected terrorists are associated with an AQI wing that manipulates young boys to become suicide bombers.
