National ERBs detain suspected criminal leader, three others in separate operations

Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO

BALAD, Iraq – The Sharqat National Emergency Response Brigade detained a suspected 1920 Revolutionary Brigade criminal leader in Bayji, approximately 50 km south of Mosul, Aug. 7.

The suspect is said to provide command and control for the 1920 Revolutionary Brigade that operates around Sharqat and Bayji. He is believed to have connections to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Qaeda in Iraq in the Tigris River Valley.

Reports indicated the suspect was in the final planning stages of emplacing improvised explosive devices and planning sniper attacks against Coalition forces at nearby forward operating bases.

Also on Aug. 7 during a separate operation in Baqubah, the Baqubah National Emergency Response Brigade detained three suspects pursuant to a Ministry of Interior warrant.  The suspects are believed to have murdered an Iraqi citizen a year ago.
