IA arrests suspected terrorist

Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO

BALAD, Iraq – Elements of the 1st Iraqi Army Division arrested a suspected military leader of Hamas al Iraq on a Ministry of Interior warrant in Fallujah Oct. 24 in an operation that killed an armed man.

The suspect is said to be responsible for training subordinate improvised explosive device cells in the production and emplacement of IEDs.  The suspect also trained these cells to conduct reconnaissance on Coalition forces patrols in order to identify vulnerabilities for future attacks.

As Iraqi and Coalition forces, who assisted in the operation, entered the home of the suspect they came under fire from an armed man within the house. They returned fire, killing the man who was later believed to part of the suspect’s personal security detail.

The IA also confiscated an IED cache consisting of homemade explosives, detonation cord and blasting caps in the room where they arrested the individual identified on the warrant.
