Multi-National Corps – Iraq Public Affairs Office, Camp Victory APO AE 09342 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RELEASE No. 20081129-03 Nov. 29, 2008 ISF captures 2 terrorists, 1 JAM-SG during separate operations in northern Iraq Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO BALAD, Iraq – Iraqi Security Forces, with the assistance of Coalition force advisors, arrested two suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) terrorists and a suspected Jaysh al Mahdi Special Groups (JAM-SG) criminal leader during separate operations in northern Iraq Nov. 24-26. Baqubah Special Weapons and Tactics captured a suspected AQI cell leader Nov. 26 during an operation in Shufta. The individual is believed to be a leader of multiple cells which conduct suicide vest attacks against Coalition and Iraqi forces. During a separate operation on Nov. 25, Iraqi Special Operations Forces captured a suspected JAM-SG criminal in Khalis. The individual is allegedly responsible for conducting numerous sectarian attacks as well as an assassination attempt on the former mayor of Khalis. In an operation in Qayarrah on Nov. 24, Iraqi Army soldiers captured a suspected AQI cell member. The individual is believed to be a facilitator and vehicle-borne improvised explosive device manufacturer for an AQI cell in the area.
