Multi-National Corps – Iraq Release TIKRIT — Mosul Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), with Coalition advisors, conducted a two-part operation April 8 in southeastern Mosul, resulting in the arrest of two suspects for their alleged participation in murderous activities. The suspects, arrested on warrants issued by the Ninewa Investigative Court, were wanted by authorities for disrupting the safety and security of Iraqi civilians, said the ground forces commander. “Insurgents will be held responsible for their actions and Mosul SWAT continues to demonstrate that they are capable of bringing them to justice,” he added. According to investigating sources, one suspect is an improvised explosive device facilitator and the other is a suspected assassin who formerly provided a safe haven for building and storing the cell’s vehicle-borne IEDs. “The population will likely look at the detention of the [facilitator] favorably due to the removal of IEDs and suicide-vest IEDs in southeastern Mosul,” said a Coalition advisor present at the time of the operation. “The result should be greater security and fewer civilian deaths.” Following the arrest, Mosul SWAT utilized information obtained from the suspects to uncover a large cache of homemade hand grenades. |
