Anbar Governor is FDI Global Personality of the Year Multi National Force – West

AL ANBAR PROVINCE, Iraq – The Governor of Al Anbar province, Qasim Al Fahadawi, has been selected by Foreign Direct Investment magazine as the 2009 Global Personality of the Year.
 
As stated in FDI magazine, “The FDI personality of the year awards recognize the political and business leaders around the world who have been the most proactive, dynamic and innovative in securing foreign investment and improving the business environments of their jurisdictions. Regional winners are selected for Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North America; out of these candidates a global winner is chosen.”
 
In being named the Personality of the Year, Gov. Qasim joins the ranks of such previous winners as former Mexican President Vicente Fox (2003), Brazilian President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva (2004), former Mayor of Seoul and now President of Korea Lee Myung-bak (2005), Premier of Ontario Dalton McGuinty (2006), Indian Commerce Minister Kamal Nath (2007) and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan (2008).
 
Qasim was seated as the governor of Anbar on April 11, 2009, as a result of the provincial elections held in January. In the FDI article announcing his selection, he is quoted with regard to his plan for the future.
 
“If everything goes according to my plan, within two years we will have put everything in place in the right way. So the second two years in office should be easy for me,” he says with a laugh. “Then I can work eight hours a day instead of 18.”
 
As the 2009 Global Personality of the Year, Qasim is one step closer to ensuring that “Peace leads to Prosperity” continues to prove true in Anbar.
