798 Iraqi Federal Police Graduate Carabinieri Training

BAGHDAD – Seven hundred and ninety-eight Iraqi Federal Policemen graduated from unit-level training Oct. 1 at Camp Dublin here.

The Italian Caribinieri police team, a part of the NATO Training Mission – Iraq and with the assistance of a cadre of Iraqi trainers, conducted the specialized training during the eight-week course.

Graduates demonstrated skills in crowd control, traffic stops, VIP protection and hostage rescue before the audience of dignitaries, trainers and course administrators. The course is designed to make the Federal Police a better skilled, better led, more responsive and more caring force.

Iraqi Maj. Gen. Adnon of the Ministry of Interior congratulated the graduates for overcoming all obstacles in completing the course, and labeled them as Iraq’s “most dangerous forces against terrorism, fighting beside our brothers in the Ministry of Defense.”

U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Frank Helmick, commanding general of the Multi National Security Transition Command – Iraq and NTM-I, spoke to the assembled crowd, noting that this graduation marked the completion of the 10th iteration of this course since its implementation in November of 2007. This brings the total number of Iraqi Federal Police graduates to more than 5,000.

Helmick praised the graduates for displaying professionalism and commitment to the people of Iraq, and reminded them that their commanders, and the people of Iraq, expected them to perform fairly to all citizens, and follow their community policing principles.  He charged them to “Do what is right to protect the citizens of this country, and lead the way for the people of Iraq.”

The next class convenes Oct. 10 with 40 Kurdish trainees scheduled to participate in the training course.
