Multi-National Corps – Iraq Public Affairs Office, Camp Victory APO AE 09342 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RELEASE No. 20061226-23 Dec. 26, 2006 Multiple car bombs detonate in Bayaa Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO BAGHDAD – Iraqi National Police and Coalition Forces responded to multiple vehicle borne improvised explosive devices that detonated in the southwestern section of the Iraqi capital Dec. 26.
Soldiers of 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division observed multiple explosions in the area and received initial reports from 2nd Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st National Police Division Transition Team that three car bombs detonated in the area.
Shortly after the explosions, Soldiers from 1st Platoon, Company A, 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment arrived on site to support the Iraqi National Police. Initial reports indicate that 10 local nationals were killed and approximately 40 were wounded. Twenty vehicles were damaged in the attack.
The Iraqi National Police and local fire department personnel have secured the site and all injured personnel are being transferred to the Yarmuk hospital for medical treatment.
This incident is still under investigation.
