Iraqi Army Kills Three Insurgents In Raid To Capture Insurgent Leader near Baqubah
Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO

BAGHDAD
– Three insurgents were killed during a 5th Iraqi Army operation Jan. 7 in Tahrir village near Baqubah to detain the leader of an insurgent cell responsible for the kidnapping and murder of Iraqi civilians.

During the operation, insurgents exited a nearby mosque and began firing upon Iraqi Force members and Coalition advisors with heavy machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades. Iraqi and Coalition force members returned fire killing three insurgents.

A Coalition force aerial weapons team observed other armed insurgents maneuvering into position to attack the ground force, and upon clearance engaged the insurgents.  There were no reports of additional insurgents killed or wounded.

While some damage from gunfire was reported, there are no reports of damage to the mosque, nor was the mosque targeted by the AWT.

No Coalition force or Iraqi Army Force members were injured during the operation.
