Soldiers conduct humanitarian mission in Al Qosh
Multi-National Division – North PAO

AL QOSH, Iraq – On Jan. 3, Coalition Soldiers from the 27th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, completed a Medical Civic Action Project in the city of Al Qosh, located approximately 50 km north of Mosul.

The MEDCAP was intended to provide a medical assessment to the people and children of Al Qosh, discuss improvement propositions for the community with the mayor, and to distribute toys to children living in the city and the orphanage.

During the mission, one female physician’s assistant and one female pediatrician medically examined over 80 people; 65 percent children, and 35 percent women.

Three dozen soccer balls were distributed to the children of the town, courtesy of a donation from a radio station in the United States, as well as clothing, toys, shoes, and school supplies.

A Coalition civil affairs officer spoke to the mayor about future Commander’s Emergency Response Program projects and ways that the 27th BSB could help.  A meeting with the religious leader who runs the orphanage was also held and a generator project to provide heat to the orphanage was discussed.

Coalition forces are continually assessing the health and living conditions of  residents in the towns of their respective operating areas and utilizing resources to offer improvements to the quality of life.
