BAGHDAD – A joint operation combining Iraqi national policemen and Coalition force members seized three weapons caches and detained ten men suspected of committing sectarian murders and emplacing road-side bombs in the Jaza’r neighborhood Jan. 10. Soldiers from Company C, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry regiment, together with members of 2nd Battalion, 6th Iraqi National Police Brigade began the operation by establishing an outer security perimeter, followed by a house-to-house search of the area. The operation was the result of tips from local citizens of possible insurgents and weapons caches in the neighborhood. The national police seized three large weapons caches containing one rifle fitted with a silencer, one machine gun, one sniper rifle, assorted small arms ammunition and bomb-making materials. The ten are being held for further questioning.
