CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq
– Iraqi Police and Iraqi Army Soldiers together detained 47 insurgents during Operation Ar Bead in Fallujah proper Jan. 9.

Charges against 31 of the detainees have been filed, and charges against 16 others are pending.

The combined operation was spearheaded by the Iraqi Police and Iraqi Army, though elements of 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 5 participated at the request of the police.

“The district police chief – this was his idea,” said Lt. Col. Race Roberson, the RCT-5 police implementation officer. “It was (an Iraqi Security Forces) operation; they were the owners of it.”

The Fallujah and Habbaniya Police recruited 301 new members earlier this week and shipped them to the Jordanian International Police Training Course.

“The police are a strong force, and they will go anywhere at anytime in the city of Fallujah,” Roberson said.
