IP Captures Leader Of Terrorist Bombing Cell Near Haswah Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO
BAGHDAD – Special Iraqi Police Forces captured the suspected leader of a terrorist bombing cell during operations with Coalition advisors Jan. 25 in northern Babil Province near Haswah. The cell leader is responsible for coordinating and carrying out improvised explosive device attacks against Iraqi civilians and security forces in the area. The cell is suspected of being linked to al Qaeda in Iraq and facilitates AQI efforts in targeting Iraqi Security and Coalition Forces in IED and indirect fire attacks. The cell is believed responsible for several attacks against ISF and CF convoys in Babil Province. The cell is also suspected of murdering Iraqi civilians in sectarian attacks and ambushes. Iraqi Forces detained eight additional suspects for questioning. There was minimal damage done to the objective. There were no Iraqi civilian, Iraqi Forces or Coalition Forces casualties.
